Do you ever see someone who is where you want to be in life, and wonder not only how they got there, but how they got there so much faster than you? Like, what are you doing, and how do I do it? Yeah, so have I!
It is hard, especially now with social media virtually, to not see others flourishing, living their best life, running that business you are working towards, taking the vacations you are still trying to plan, and living the life you have pictured in your head. But the reality is, well for one, half of what is on social media isn't even reality. Two, the other reality is we are all on different paths that will lead us to our destination at different times.
My first business was a Personal/Executive Assistant business. In doing this I got to work with a lot of different individuals, families, and business owners. Every time I worked with someone new it would excite me to learn who they were and what they did, and to also be small helping hand in their life. While it was exciting and I enjoyed what I did, (and still do), I often found myself comparing myself ,and wondering how. How did this business owner get so successful, how does this mom of 3 make it look so easy, how is this person able to take so many trips? Then next came the tough questions. How do I get there, what I am doing wrong, what else could I be doing? I wasn't jealous, I was just anxious. Anxious to get where "I" WANTED to be.
I soon realized that we cannot compare ourselves to others because we are simply all on different paths, with different obligations, and different life circumstances. Mary down the street always has a clean house because she has off every Tuesday and Wednesday and can clean during the week (or she simply has maid lol). I have off on the weekends when the kids are home dropping the next toy behind me as I pick up the one up in front of me. Donna gets to take quarterly vacations because her job offers a bad ass vacation plan. I chose to be an Entrepreneur that doesn't exactly offer scheduled paid vacations. Jerry's business took off like a rocket, he is also single with no kids and could put every minute he wants to into his work. I started my business with two kids, and shorty after acquired a husband and dog (laughs), which means my business building time is from bed time to sunup. And just FYI, I personally do not know a Mary, Donna or Jerry!
The best part about learning to focus on my own timeline and not everyone else's, is that I started to appreciate what I had a lot more than I ever did before. Instead of trying to rush my timeline, I started to enjoy it. Wanna know what the funny thing is? When I started to slow down and stop rushing, the things I was working towards started to take off to speed up. I am a big believer in the Universe and it powers. The Universe (or whom ever you believe in) will always put you where you need to be when you need to be there. So until then, keep working towards your goals, appreciate the path you are on, and focus on your timeline; you are on it for a reason.
